Quoting

Is it okay to clean up a source's quote for poor grammar or should you only run quotes verbatim?

It is important to quote the person exactly; however, I would only alter a few words. If I were to change a complete word from the quote, then to me it would not be considered a direct quote, because information in it has been changed. Here is an example of something I may alter though:

"dude, whateva he said about da crime, I don't agree wit"

"...whatever he said about the crime, I don't agree with"

Circumstance like this is when I would alter the quote, because they are saying that word just in a different speaking way"
